Biography
Gene expression arrays allow one to peek into the entire genomic makeup of a disease process - to determine pathways that trigger onset or worsening of disease; to identify novel targets for developing diagnostic tests and therapeutics; and to understand complex molecular and environmental interactions. Newer derivatives of gene arrays can even potentially be used to identify unknown pathogens and serve in the fight against bioterrorism. This powerful tool can interrogate expression patterns of thousands of genes in simultaneous assays. Comparison of these patterns from different samples representing different disease states or tissue types or time points provide insight into and information about important genes and their function. —and diet ´ gene interactions—on the risk of prostate cancer.
